By using lithology macros, logs can be created faster and more consistently. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The lithology macros can adhere to standardized soil classifications; such as USCS.  In addition, the use of a unified naming system of layers makes the automatic generation of cross-sections more accurate. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-creating-and-editing-lithology-macros\">Creating and Editing Lithology Macros<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>To create or edit lithology macros select Tools then Boreholes then Lithology Macros. The Lithology Macros form will be displayed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"646\" height=\"544\" src=\"https:\/\/gaeatech.com\/knowledge-center\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/image-3.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-738\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gaeatech.com\/knowledge-center\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/image-3.png 646w, https:\/\/gaeatech.com\/knowledge-center\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/image-3-300x253.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 646px) 100vw, 646px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>On this form, lithology macros can be edited, created, and deleted. Each lithology macro consists of a Name, Title, Text, and Symbol. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Name should be unique and is used for the selection in logs  as well as for cross-section generation. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Title is optional and will be inserted for the title of the lithologic layer in the log. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Text will be  inserted for the description of the lithologic layer in the log.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Symbol is the symbol of the lithology that will be used for the lithologic layer. When it is selected, a button will appear for the symbol. To change the symbol, click on the button and the Select Lithologic Symbol form will be displayed. This form can be used to select the colors, lithologic library and symbol.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-using-lithology-macros-in-logs\">Using Lithology Macros in Logs<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>When creating a log, lithologic macros can be used to quickly enter the name, title, description and symbol for a layer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the template for the log specifies the Title Edit mode as \u201cText\u201d for the lithology description column, the Name column will not appear on the Lithology List form and lithology macros can not be used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the \u201cUse Strata Names List\u201d option is selected in the template, the names will need to selected from the list of lithology macros. The names selected for each layer in this situation will have to be unique for each layer.
