By mastering Sample Descriptors in WinLoG, you can replace manual data entry with a streamlined, “click-and-pick” system. Not only does this save hours of office time, but it also ensures that your data is perfectly formatted for 3D modeling and client review.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When entering borehole samples in WinLoG<\/a>, sample descriptors can be used to select sample descriptions from predefined lists. There are descriptors for soil type, color, odour, porosity, and consistency. By using sample descriptors, sample descriptions can be standardized for logs, To see these descriptors on the log a column for the descriptor must be specified in the template.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Editing Standardized Sample Descriptors<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Sample descriptors are populated when WinLoG<\/a> is installed and can be edited by going to Tools then Lists then Samples and then selecting the descriptor (for example Soil Types).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A list of descriptions is shown on the form. Descriptions can be added and removed using the buttons at the top of the form. To edit a description, select it in the list and then click on it again to edit it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Using Standardized Sample Descriptors<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

To edit the samples on a log click on the sample column or select Sample Data from the Edit menu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Sample Data form is used to edit the data for each sample, that is displayed in one or more columns of the log. The template determines the type of information displayed on the log for the sample. The data columns to be displayed can be changed by right clicking on the first header row. A popup menu will be displayed showing all of the columns that can be displayed. Check the box next to the columns to display in the list. In addition, the data columns can be restricted to only those shown on the log using the checkbox at the bottom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When a descriptor column is selected on the form a list of predefined descriptions is displayed. The description for this sample can be selected from this list. Using these predefined lists minimizes the amount of data entry and standardizes the sample descriptions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Auto Populate Samples<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Another method to quickly add samples and minimize the data entry is to auto populate the samples using the Populate Samples button at the bottom of the Sample Data form. This function is only available if no samples have been entered yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Multiple samples can be added by specify the start depth, end depth, sample length, and sample interval. In addition, a sample prefix can be specified to use for each sample number (for example, SS).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
