At GAEA Technologies, we believe that access to clean water is a fundamental human right. However, for many communities in sub-Saharan Africa, this basic necessity remains out of reach, leading to cycles of illness and poverty. To help address this global crisis, we have partnered with The Water Project, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing reliable water and sanitation programs to those in need.

Our commitment to this cause is directly tied to the support of our clients. Every time you invest in our geoscientific and engineering software or maintain your existing tools, you are contributing to life-changing infrastructure.

Our Impact Commitment

We have structured our giving to ensure that every major interaction with our customers results in a meaningful contribution:

  • $50 Donated for Every Sale: For every new software license sold, GAEA Technologies donates $50 to The Water Project.
  • $25 Donated for Every Annual Maintenance Agreement: Every time a client renews or signs an annual maintenance agreement, we contribute $25 to the cause.

Why The Water Project?

The Water Project focuses on sustainable, local solutions in countries like Kenya, Uganda, and Sierra Leone. Their approach goes beyond just digging wells; they provide:

  • Diverse Solutions: From borehole wells and rain catchment systems to sand dams and protected springs.
  • Hygiene & Sanitation Training: Ensuring communities understand water handling and disease prevention to maximize the health benefits of clean water.
  • Long-Term Sustainability: They invest in local teams and Water User Committees to maintain water points for years to come.

The Real-World Difference

Clean water transforms lives in measurable ways. When a community gains access to a reliable water source:

  1. Health Improves: Families are no longer forced to drink contaminated water, drastically reducing waterborne illnesses.
  2. Education Flourishes: Children, especially girls, no longer spend hours fetching water and can instead spend that time in school.
  3. Economic Growth: With water at their fingertips, people can invest time in their livelihoods and farms rather than survival.

How The Water Project Operates

Unlike many organizations that only focus on the initial construction, The Water Project prioritizes long-term sustainability and transparency.

  • Regional Expertise: They operate through local teams in Kenya, Uganda, and Sierra Leone. By employing local staff, they ensure that the technical expertise to repair and maintain water points stays within the community.
  • Diverse Water Solutions: Projects are tailored to the local geography and include borehole wells, rainwater harvesting tanks, protected springs, and sand dams.
  • Meticulous Reporting: They provide real-time impact data and GPS coordinates for every project, allowing donors to see exactly how their contributions are being used.
  • WASH Focus: Every project includes Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) training, which is critical for reducing the spread of waterborne diseases.

Personal Involvement & Volunteer Opportunities

While The Water Project does not offer “volunteering in the field” to build wells (as they prioritize hiring local residents to provide income opportunities), there are several impactful ways to help:

  1. Become a Digital Advocate: The most critical way an individual can help is by sharing the story. Following their social media accounts and re-posting updates helps grow the network of supporters.
  2. The Water Challenge: Individuals or groups can take a Water Challenge, where they drink only water for two weeks and donate the money they would have spent on other beverages.
  3. Start a Fundraising Campaign: You can start a custom campaign for a birthday, wedding, or athletic event to fund a specific water project.
  4. The Water Promise: Join a community of monthly donors to provide consistent, reliable support for ongoing maintenance and new projects.
  5. Office Volunteering: For those near their headquarters in Concord, New Hampshire, there are occasional opportunities for administrative or office-based volunteer work.

Summary

GAEA Technologies supports The Water Project by donating $50 for every new sale and $25 for every annual maintenance agreement. These funds support sustainable water, hygiene, and sanitation projects in sub-Saharan Africa, helping to break the cycle of poverty and disease.

Beyond the financial support from GAEA Technologies, The Water Project thrives on a global community of advocates. By focusing on local leadership and sustainable engineering, they provide clean water to over 850,000 people annually. While field-work is handled by local professionals, supporters can contribute by becoming digital advocates, participating in the Water Challenge, or starting personal fundraisers.
