How Do I Create and Enter Tables in WinLoG Templates and Logs?

How to create and enter tables in WinLoG templates and logs for managing tabular geological data
Share the knowledge

Creating a professional borehole log requires a structured template. In WinLoG, tables are dynamic objects that can be placed anywhere on your log to display project details, lab results, or well construction data.

To create and manage tables within GAEA Technologies WinLoG, you must distinguish between designing the table’s structure in the Template  and entering the actual data in the Log.

Creating a Table in the Template

Before you can enter data in the log, you must define the table’s layout in your template.

  • Add the Table Object: In the template, click the Table button on the toolbar. Click and drag on the template to set its initial size and position.
  • Configure Rows and Columns: Double-click the table or select Edit Tables to open the Edit Tables form.
    • Fixed Rows/Columns: Set these for information that stays constant (like headers). Fixed data can only be edited in the template.
    • Data Rows/Columns: These cells will be available for unique data entry in each individual log.
  • Customize Appearance: Set borders, interior line styles, and background colors. You can also set font styles for both labels and values.
  • On the Headers tab specify the headers for the fixed columns and row.
  • On the Cell Widths tab specify the widths of the rows and columns.

Entering Data in the Log

Once your template is saved and applied to a borehole log, you can populate your tables with specific data.

  • Access the Table: Open your borehole log and locate the table. Double-click on it or select Edit and Tables to open the data entry interface.
  • Direct Entry: Click into any non-fixed cell to type your data. Most tables in WinLoG support standard keyboard navigation (Tab and Enter) to move between cells.

Summary

To manage tables in WinLoG, first use the Template to add a “Table Object” and define its fixed headers and non-fixed data cells. Once the template is applied to a log, use the log editor to double-click the table and enter your specific project data directly into the cells.
